William Goulstone 1914 to 2007
 
 June 1919 - William, Barbara and Aimee

      William GOULSTONE, son of William Vaughan GOULSTONE and Harriet Amelia nee GLENNY, was born on 28th June 1914 in Bromley, Kent. He had a sister Barbara, born 1918 but she died of Scarlet Fever aged 4 years in 1922 in Bromley.

      He was educated at Carn Brea Preparatory School (Private) from the age of eight. 1922 to 1927.

      He was at Mill Hill Public School, North London from the age of thirteen to eighteen. 1927 to 1932.  
 
Graduate Doctor 1938
      He studied medicine and marine biology at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge University and as an intern at St Thomas's teaching Hospital until 1937, London, qualified as a Doctor then went to Wolverhampton Hospital before going on to the Royal Surrey Hospital at Guilford.

      He met his future wife, Laura Denise RICHARDSON in Torquay on a holiday with some friends, they were married at Finchley, North London on the 30 September 1939.

Life before being posted overseas
      He joined the Air Force in 1940 and was posted to Cambridge, where his first child Bryan Vaughan was born prematurely in an air raid, then to Scarborough and finally to Brighton.

The Medical Team
      He was sent as a medical officer to the desert in North Africa where he served for four years. He achieved the rank of (Honorary) Squadron Leader (Medic).

      He served with distinction and as a competent German speaker was assigned to wounded POWs.

      He returned in 1944 and moved back to Bromley and in 1947 purchased the house and medical practice at "Newlands", 37 Parkhill Road, Bexley, Kent where he lived for 54 years, having three more children, Dennis William (Chunky) in 1946, Jeremy John (J) in 1948 and Glenys Laura (Gig) in 1952.

Spring 1964 - Newlands, 37 Parkhill Road, Bexley
      Whilst in this house he conducted his practice for 35 years and each day would have the same routine of morning surgery from 9:00 - 10:30 then house calls from 11:00 - 1:00 before having an hour's lunch break and continuing with any remaining house calls until 4:00 when he had a rest before his evening surgery from 5:30 - 7:00 or 7:30 depending on the number of patients waiting to see him and on two days a week in the afternoon he conducted a pre- and post-maternity clinic. He joined up with two other local Doctors, Dr Riddle and Dr Morrissey to form a Group Practice.  
 
St John's, Bexley
      He retired in 1979 after dedicated service to the village for 42 years. He was an active founder member of the Bexley Rotarian club and the Cray Valley Golf Club, and a sidesman at St John’s Church, later taking on the role of ‘keeper and winder of the church clock’ until it was electrified. When he retired he went out 2-3 times per week to play golf with friends and they sometimes came over to play on his snooker table.  
 
Moving into Westerham Place
      In January 2001, Laura, his wife, passed away in hospital after suffering from a severe stroke. As he was unable to housekeep such a big old house he had to move into Westerham residential home. Where he stayed for six years until his condition and frailty meant that he required nursing care and he was moved into a nursing home where on 13 December 2007 he died, after a short illness.
